Property clean-ups

Coastal Edge Property Care will carry out garden bed installations and upgrades using a clear, step-by-step process that ensures tidy, durable results and healthy plant establishment.

Site assessment and planning

  • Inspect the existing bed area: measure dimensions, check soil condition, drainage, sun/shade exposure and proximity to structures or underground services.

  • Confirm client goals and style preferences: plant selection (native, coastal, low-maintenance), desired height of raised edge and mulch type.

  • Prepare a simple layout and material list, and agree schedule and access requirements with the client.

Preparation

  • Clear the area of debris, weeds, unwanted plants and any old edging that will be replaced.

  • Prune or remove existing plants as agreed; salvage healthy specimens for replanting if requested.

  • Mark out the new bed edges and raised wall lines, ensuring levels are appropriate for drainage and visual balance.

Constructing a raised wall (for existing beds)

  • Excavate a shallow trench to provide a stable base for the wall material and to set correct finished heights.

  • Install a compacted base (sand or crushed rock) where required for the chosen wall material.

  • Build the raised wall using the agreed material (timber sleepers, rendered block, stacked stone or other). Walls are constructed to be structurally sound, level and properly restrained to prevent movement.

  • Include weep holes or adequate drainage behind the wall if needed to prevent water buildup.

  • Backfill behind the wall with suitable material and compact to the correct level.

Soil preparation and improvement

  • Loosen and decompact the existing soil within the bed zone.

  • Remove persistent weeds and roots.

  • Incorporate organic matter and soil conditioners to improve structure and fertility; add certified topsoil or a planting mix if required.

  • Level and grade the bed to ensure positive surface drainage away from buildings.

Plant selection and planting

  • Lay out plants before planting to confirm spacing, sightlines and overall composition.

  • Plant in appropriately sized holes, ensuring correct depth to prevent collar burial.

  • Mulch around plants after planting to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

  • Stake or protect newly planted specimens if required.

Mulching and finishing touches

  • Apply an even layer of mulch to the agreed depth (commonly 50–75 mm) using recycled hardwood, pine bark, sugarcane mulch or gravel, depending on the design.

  • Edge beds cleanly and sweep paths or paving to leave a tidy site.

Clean-up and client handover

  • Remove all green waste and construction debris from site, recycling or disposing of materials responsibly.

  • Walk through with the client to explain plant care and any maintenance recommendations.

Options for existing beds

  • Raised wall addition: construct a new low retaining wall around or within the existing bed to improve definition, create terracing, or raise soil depth for improved root growth.

  • Mulch refresh: remove old mulch, refresh soil surface where needed and apply new mulch to agreed depth.

  • Plant refresh: replace failed or unsuitable species, add new specimen plants, or infill gaps to rejuvenate the bed.

Quality and safety

  • Work is carried out by trained, insured tradespeople using appropriate PPE and equipment.

  • Materials are selected for durability in coastal conditions where applicable.

  • We comply with local council requirements and will obtain permits where necessary.

Lead times, pricing and warranties

  • Quotes are prepared after the site assessment and include a clear scope, materials list and timeline.

  • Start dates are scheduled once materials are available and client approval is received.

  • Warranties cover workmanship for an agreed period and plant health guarantees are specified in the quote.

If you’d like, we can arrange a site visit to provide a detailed quote and timeline tailored to your specific beds and preferences.

Property clean-ups — overgrowth removal, green waste collection and pressure washing

Approach

  • Initial assessment: We conduct a site inspection to identify vegetation types, access points, potential hazards, drainage considerations and surfaces requiring pressure washing. We record the work required, any client preferences and take photos for before/after records.

  • Risk management: We follow safety procedures, use appropriate PPE and apply safe work methods for manual and mechanical vegetation removal.

  • Communication: You receive a written work order with the agreed scope, timeframe, access requirements and a quote. Any variations discovered on site are communicated for approval before additional work proceeds.

Overgrowth removal

  • Methods used: Hand tools (loppers, pruning saws, secateurs), powered tools (brushcutters, hedge trimmers) and mowers depending on site conditions.

  • Selective pruning: We prune trees and shrubs to safe, healthy standards — removing dead wood, crossing branches and excessive regrowth while preserving plant health and sightlines.

  • Complete clearing: For heavy weed and undergrowth removal we cut back to ground level, treat problematic weeds as agreed and remove root masses where practical.

  • Ecology protection: We will check for nesting birds and other wildlife before major disturbance and minimise damage to established gardens and turf.

Green waste collection and disposal

  • On-site collection: Green waste is collected and sorted — branches, prunings, grass clippings and garden debris separated from general rubbish. Larger timber is cut to manageable lengths.

  • Clean-up standard: After green waste is removed or processed, the site is swept and left tidy. We remove smaller debris and rake lawn areas to a neat finish.

Pressure washing

  • Surface assessment: We identify surface types and determine the correct pressure, nozzle and cleaning agents. Soft-wash methods are used for delicate surfaces and timber to prevent damage.

  • Cleaning process: Surfaces are pre-treated for oil, mould, algae or lichen where required, agitated if necessary, then rinsed with high-pressure equipment or soft-wash systems. We protect nearby plants, windows and electrical fittings during the process.

  • Safety and environmental care: Wastewater runoff is managed to avoid stormwater contamination and comply with local council rules. We capture and contain wash water where required and use biodegradable detergents.

  • Finishing: After washing we do a final inspection to ensure even cleaning and remove any remaining debris from the surface.

Timing and access

  • Small properties: 2-4 hours

  • Medium properties: 4-8 hours

  • Large or complex properties: 8+ hours

  • Access requirements: Ensure a clear access path for tools and machinery, note any gate codes or locked areas and secure pets.

  • Weather considerations: Heavy rain or storms can delay work; we will reschedule for safety and best results.

Quoting, insurance and guarantees

  • Transparent quotes: Quotes outline the scope and inclusions (green waste handling, pressure washing specifications).

  • Insurance and licences: Coastal Edge Property Care holds public liability insurance and relevant licences for powered equipment.

  • Quality assurance: We photograph the site before and after work and provide a completion report. If you’re not satisfied with any aspect, contact us within 48 hours and we’ll rectify the issue promptly.

How to book

  • To arrange a clean-up we can schedule a site assessment at a mutually convenient time. Provide your property address, preferred contact details and any specific concerns.
